- Sam Ominyi Egwu was the governor of Ebonyi State from (29 May 1999 -29 May 2007).
He was the first executive governor of Ebonyi state. He took over from Simeon Oduoye and handed over to Martin Elechi.
Sam Ominyi Egwu, senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Ex-Governor was born on June 20, 1954 in Ezzamgbo, Ohaukwu local government of Ebonyi state. He was Governor of Ebonyi State, Nigeria from 29 May 1999 to 29 May 2007. Sam Ominyi Egwu is senator representing Ebonyi North constituency.
He attended CNML Primary and Secondary School, Anyigba. He proceeded to the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in political science in 1984 with a second class honours (upper division). He went further to obtain his Masters at University of Jos in 1985, and Doctorate in 2003
He served the University of Jos in the Department of Political Science.
His belongs to professional bodies like the Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA); Association of Political Science (AAPS) Social Science Academy of Nigeria (SSSN); African Studies and the Association (ASA) and the International Political Science Association (IPSA).
He served as the Head of the Department (H.O.D) of Crop Science, Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), and chairman, ESUT Staff School Management Board. He also served as a chairman, governing council, Girls Secondary School, Ezzamgbo, and was a member of Anambra State Central Investment Company.
Between 2008 and 2010 he served as President of the Nigerian Political Science Association after an earlier stint as Vice-President of the association between 2005 and 2008.President Umaru Yaradua appointed him Federal Minister of Education in December 2008-2011.
He is a member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Nigeria. In the 2015 elections, he contested for and won the Ebonyi North Senatorial seat. He is married and blessed with six children.
- Chief Martin Nwancho Elechi, MFR (29 May 2007 - 29 May 2015)
Martin Nwancho Elechi was born on February 7, 1941 at Ohankwu Village, Alike in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Martin Elechi completed his Primary Education at the Native Authority School Nkwagu Izzi, in Ebonyi State in 1954. He proceeded for his Secondary Education at Mary Knoll Secondary School Okuku Ogoja in Cross River State where he got his West African School Leaving Certificate in 1959. He went further to Holy Family College, Abak in Awka Ibom State where he obtained his Higher School Certificate in 1961. Later in 1966, Chief Martin Elechi obtained a First Class B.Sc. degree in Economics from the Lovanium University of Congo.
As a graduate, Chief Martin Elechi worked as a teacher at St. Edna Secondary School; Iboko and Izzi County Secondary School both at Abakaliki. He was also a part time lecturer at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
In the year 2007, he contested for the governorship position in Ebonyi state and won under the People's Democratic Party. He was re-elected for a second term in office in the year 2011. He completed his second tenure in office on the 29th of May, 2015 and handed over to Engr. David Nweze Umahi.
Chief Martin Elechi is married to Chief (Mrs.) Josephine Elechi and they are blessed with four children (three boys and one girl) and grandchildren.

David Nweze Umahi was born to the family of Elder and Deaconess Joseph Umahi Nweze in Umunaga Uburu in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. He attended Umunaga Primary School in Uburu from 1971-1977 where he obtained his First Leaving Certificate with Distinction. He started his secondary education at Ishiagu High School in 1978 and in 1979, transferred to the Government Secondary School, Afikpo, where he completed his secondary education and passed his WASSC Examinations. While in Government Secondary School Afikpo, was made a Library Prefect.
He attended the Anambra State University of Science and Technology where he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from 1982 to 1987. While in Anambra State University of Science and Technology, he was elected into the Students parliament as a Senator representing Engineering Faculty. At the completion of his university education, he enlisted for the NYSC scheme. Between 1988 and 1989, he did his National Service in SAIPEM SPA in Benin City. While serving there, he was made a Sectional Head (CATHODIC PROTECTION ENGINEERING SECTOR) in the 2.8 billion naira gas pipeline project from EXCRAVOS IN WARRI to EGBIN GAS PLANT IN LAGOS. After his National Youth Service Programme, he worked with SCC Nigeria Limited; an Israeli Company (Water Engineering Giant) and rose to the position of Project Engineer.
From 1990 to 1993, he became General Manager and Shareholder in NORMAN ENGINEERING AND CONSTRUCTION NIGERIA LIMITED, a company which he co-founded with the then MD of NAFCON Port-Harcourt, Dr. Ombo Isokarari. Chief Engr. Dave Umahi was also the Chairman and CEO of the following companies until March 2011, when he resigned his position and membership of all the companies due to his election into public office.

- Chairman and CEO of Osborn La palm Royal Resort Ltd.
He is a member of the following professional bodies:-

- Member, Council of Registered Engineers (COREN)
- Fellow of Council of Technologists of Nigeria (FCORTN)
He was appointed the Acting State Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, Ebonyi State from 2007 to 2009. Following his performance as Acting Chairman, he was elected the substantive state Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party, Ebonyi State during the 2009 State Congress of the Party, a position he held till 2011. From 2010 to 2011, he was also appointed the Chairman, Governing Board of the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, in Delta State. In the year 2011, Chief Umahi was chosen by His Excellency, Chief Martin N. Elechi CON as his running mate in the governorship election of Ebonyi State. He was elected the Deputy Governor of Ebonyi State on 26th April, 2011 and was sworn-in on 29th May, 2011.
He became the governor of Ebonyi state from 29th of May 2015 till date, after he won in the 2015 governorship election.
Engineer Dave Umahi is married to her Excellency, Chief (Mrs.) Rachel Umahi and they have seven children.
