#ENDSARS: OUTCOME OF A MEETING OF GOVERNORS AND LEADERS OF SOUTH EAST WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF THE YOUTHS OF SOUTH EAST,
#ENDSARS: *OUTCOME OF A MEETING OF GOVERNORS AND LEADERS OF SOUTH EAST WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF THE YOUTHS OF SOUTH EAST,
Further to the engagement processes between the Leaders of South East and the Youths of South East, the Governors of South East together with other Igbo Leaders have met with representatives of the Youths of South East to discuss burning issues that currently affect the nation and South East in particular and came up with the following communique:
1.The leadership of the South East Geo-political zone acknowledge with great pain, the ugly event that have enveloped our nation since the last couple of days.
2.We are particularly disturbed over the loss of lives of those of our youths and law enforcement officers across the country.
3 We are equally pained by the destruction of critical infrastructure, public and private institutions and businesses.
4.Most importantly, we are deeply concerned and pained by the erosion of the mutual trust between the ethnic nationalities across the country which has widened and greatly threatened our national unity and cohesion.
5.Consequent to the above and with a view to finding lasting peace and end to the crisis that has engulfed the nation, especially in the South East, the Governors and leaders of the region have met with representatives of the youths of the South East, who demanded the followings from Federal Government and with a strong commitment to an immediate cessation of further protests and distruction of public and private properties:
A. Complete dredging of River Niger.
B. That the youths of the South East are grateful to the Federal Government for the upgrading of the facilities at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu through an improved runway and installation of modern navigational equipment The youths demand that the remaining works at the airport be expeditiously completed and that the Aviation Ministry should, as a matter of urgency, make the airport truly international by approving the operation of airlines like the British Airways, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Air France, Delta, Lufthansa etc.
C. The youths are grateful to the Federal Government for the progress of work on the second Niger Bridge. They however demand an update on the work and specific completion timelines.
D. The various segments of South East will engage their critical stakeholders on the ongoing protest in the respective states, local and Community levels
E. The youths also demand massive rehabilitation of the Federal roads in South East, especially the Enugu-Onitsha highway, Enugu-Port-Harcourt highway, Umuahia-Ikot-Ekpene Highway, Ikot-Ekpene-Aba highway, Enugu-Abakaliki highway, Aba-Owerri road, Umuahia-Arochukwu Road, Abakaliki-Ogoja Road, Abakaliki-Afikpo Road, Uturu-Ishiagu-Nguzu Edda road, Owerri Port-Harcourt Road.
It is expected that the leaders of South East would present these demands to the Federal Government.
