The Amasiri, Ebonyi state cultural heritage
Amasiri is a town in Afikpo North Local Government Area under Amasiri Development Centre. The original settlers migrated from the riverside known as Ikun Ugbagala (from water) to settle at the current location.
Amasiri is made up of five distinct villages. The villages that make up Amasiri town according to their order are Ohechara, Itemba Ezeke Owom, Ihie, Poperi and Ndukwe. In a gathering in Amasiri town, if any village is not represented, it is regarded that Amasiri is not yet complete.
Amasiri people have one language despite the fact that they did not migrate from the same place of origin. Because of where they migrated from (i.e. Ikun Ugbagala), they still bear and retain the name Amasiri Ekuma Ugbagala. They have same ancestral culture and traditions. The male undergo initiation into manhood (Isiji) and other customary activities like Ije nje-nje.
Amasiri people, like their Afikpo counterparts have their rich cultural heritage. All their cultural activities are organized into their Calendar Month system.
